On Tuesday, September 19, members of SRZ's international law practice entertained nearly 200 friends, clients and important guests at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. Attendees included representatives of foreign consulates, overseas corporations and their subsidiaries, foreign and local attorneys, U.S. corporations with overseas interests, as well as distinguished guests from the Chicago area.
“We planned our event to coincide with this year's conference of the International Bar Association,” says Richard Zwirner, head of SRZ's international legal team, “knowing it would offer us a rare chance to socialize with clients and friends from around the world. In choosing the Shedd for its scenic and historic significance, our intention was to thank clients for their loyalty and to gather an esteemed membership of the International Bar in a venue conducive to conversation.”
“To that end,” says Michael B. Roche, head of SRZ's business litigation group, “I'd say we succeeded. The crowd seemed to appreciate the opportunity to meet and mingle in such a unique setting, judging by the conviviality.”
“Surpassing our expectations for the event,” says Richard Michaels, president of SRZ, “was the caliber of conversation—impressive that night.”
No less impressive were that day's seminars, which the International Bar dedicated to a variety of compelling topics with global impact—antitrust and trade law, dispute resolution, and international property, communications and technology law. The distinctly educational aspect of these and numerous other events of the day yielded conversation that evening equally profound.
SRZ's Ronald Geimer, who has visited more than 20 countries on behalf of clients, agrees: “The IBA convention attracted attorneys from around the world who participated in many intense working sessions. Our event offered a chance to relax, but guests seemed no less intense when discussing subjects dear to them.”
Guests of SRZ not only enjoyed appetizers and aperitifs on Chicago's dramatic lakefront, they wandered the world's largest aquarium after hours and free of crowds. Home to some 8,000 aquatic creatures, the Shedd features fish and mammals from around the globe and habitats replicating the Amazon River, a Caribbean reef and the Pacific Northwest coast. To entertain international guests, no venue seemed more fitting.
